Miriam Patterson
Yoga Therapist, Teacher, and Life Design Coach
For over twenty years, I’ve been helping people use the tools of yoga to find steadiness and self-trust in their lives. My approach weaves movement, breath, mindfulness, and reflection into practices that restore both body and perspective.
My own yoga journey began long before that—what started as a personal practice soon became a guiding force through every chapter of my life.
After several years of study, I completed my teacher training at the Sivananda Ashram in Val-Morin, Quebec—a month immersed in asana, philosophy, and self-inquiry. I began teaching a few classes a week while continuing to explore other callings: teaching elementary school, and later travelling to Kenya, Rwanda, and India to work with international development projects.
In 2007, my life shifted dramatically. I became a new mother—and within the same year, learned that I had a cancerous tumour on my foot. It was a season of deep vulnerability and awakening. During treatment, I turned to Yoga Therapy Toronto, where Felicia and Ante Pavlovic helped me design a home practice that became a lifeline. Through movement, breath, and presence, I found steadiness amid uncertainty.
That experience changed everything. Inspired by the profound support I received, I pursued advanced studies in yoga therapy with Felicia and Ante, completing my 300-hour teacher training and later my Yoga Therapist certification in 2013.
Since then, my work has centred around creating spaces for healing, awareness, and connection—through one-on-one sessions, group classes, and collaborative programs. I continue to serve as a yoga therapist in private practice and am honoured to work alongside the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in their Cancer Clinic, as well as at the Abbey Retreat Centre in Haliburton, where I help design and facilitate cancer care retreats.
My teaching draws from the lineage of my mentors Felicia and Ante Pavlovic, their teacher T.K.V. Desikachar, and his teacher Krishnamacharya, while my earliest roots remain grounded in the Sivananda tradition. I also find deep resonance in the writings of Thich Nhat Hanh, whose teachings on mindfulness and compassion continue to shape both my life and my work.
At the heart of it all is a simple belief—that yoga meets us where we are. Every person’s practice should be uniquely their own: responsive, adaptive, and rooted in care.
